ISLAMIC SPIRITUALITY

What the Qur’an says we should do for Palestine.

Let's talk about our social duties in the context of global oppression.

About The True Reality

Our goal is to inspire all truth seekers to seek personal development through reading the Holy Qur'an and learning about Allah Almighty.

Table of contents

1) Enjoin Good & Forbid Evil.
2) Be firm against injustice.
3) Strengthen each other.

What is the right and wrong way to behave in regards to the situation between Israel & Palestine, and other similar conflicts that take place on earth?

If you want to cut through the noise about what everyone thinks you should do, here are 3 instructions from the Holy Qur'an about the moral conduct and behaviors that the righteous should adopt.

If these traits describe you then YOU are one of the righteous.

1) Enjoin Good & Forbid Evil

Basically, our duty is to resist oppression by enjoining good and forbidding evil.

Enjoining good and forbidding evil is rooted in promoting righteousness and preventing wrongdoing in any scenario.

In the case of Palestine, we’re talking about enjoining good and forbidding evil within the global community.

In Surah 9 Repentance, Allah says:

“The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakat (charity) and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those - Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.”

112. Those who turn (to Allah), who serve (Him), who praise (Him), who fast, who bow down, who prostrate themselves, who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and who keep the limits of Allah; and give good news to the believers.

5 pillars of Islam

The 5 pillars of Islam, also known as the roots and branches of religion, represent the basic tenets of the Islamic deen (deen means customs or religion).

Enjoying good and forbidding evil, are some of the "branches of religion".

The 5 roots of religion are:

Tawheed : Believing that there is One God.
Adalat : Believing that God is fair.
Nubuwat : Believing that God sent prophets to deliver God's message.
Imamat : Believing in leadership for political and religious affairs.
Qiyamat : Believing in the Day of Judgement and our Resurrection after death.

The 10 branches of religion are:

Prayer
Fasting
Hajj - Pilgrimage to the Kaba
Zakat - Charity Tax
Kums - Tax (another form of charity)
Jihad - Striving
Amr Bil Maroof- Enjoining good
Nahi Anil Munkar - Forbidding evil
Tawala -  Loving the Truth and righteousness
Tabara - Hating oppressors and falsehood

There are three levels or methods of forbidding evil in Islam:

Forbidding Evil through Action (Nahi Anil Munkar bil Yad):

This level is the most active and outward form of forbidding evil. It involves physically intervening or taking action to prevent or stop the wrongdoing.

It's important to note that physical intervention should be carried out within the boundaries of the law and in a manner that doesn't cause further harm or conflict.

Forbidding Evil Verbally (Nahi Anil Munkar bil Lisan):

This level involves verbally speaking out against evil or wrongdoing. Muslims are encouraged to advise, counsel, and verbally discourage others from engaging in sinful actions or behaviors. This can be through advice, reminders, or guidance aimed at correcting bad behavior and promoting righteousness.

Forbidding Evil in One's Heart (Nahi Anil Munkar bil Qalb):

This level involves detesting and condemning evil in one's heart. This includes feeling discomfort, dislike, or displeasure toward something wrong or immoral without necessarily taking any outward action.

So, it's your duty to at least condemn the occupation of Palestine in your mind. That is enough to be accepted by Allah. Allah is more merciful than us humans who always judge one another for our varying abilities.

A higher rank for those who actively resist

For anyone who is actively resisting the occupation of Palestine, speaking out, or wearing the kufiya...

For anyone forbidding evil passively by boycotting  companies that support the occupation of Palestine ...

For anyone who has lost their jobs, or have been attacked...

For Muslim women who bravely wear their hijab in a society that is hostile towards Muslims…

For anyone who ever questioned yourself as to why you’re doing all this...

Your resistance is being accepted by Allah. You’ll gain more than you lost, be patient.

Allah sees you in a higher rank to others.

In surah 4 The Women, Allah says:

95. Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt and those who strive and fight in the cause of God with their goods and their persons. God has granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home): unto all (in faith) has God promised good: but those who strive and fight has He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward.

96. Ranks specially bestowed by Him and Forgiveness and Mercy. For God is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

2) Be FIRM against injustice

In surah 4 The Women, Allah tells us to stand out firmly for justice.

135. O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to God even if it’s against yourselves or your parents or your kin and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for God can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts) in case you swerve and if you distort (justice) or decline to do justice verily God is well-acquainted with all that you do.

Even in the face of great loss, we are to be firm against mischief makers. In surah 9 Repentance  Allah talks about being firm and steadfast even if you suffer some affliction because any harm your experience in striving for Allah’s cause will yield a great reward for you.

119. O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true (in word and deed).

120. It was not fitting for the people of Madinah and the Bedouin Arabs of the neighborhood, to refuse to accompany Allah's Messenger, nor to prefer their own lives to his: because nothing  they could suffer or do, but it is written down to their credit as a deed of righteousness—whether they suffered thirst, or fatigue, or hunger, in the Cause of Allah, for Allah suffers not the reward to be lost of those who do good—

121. Nor could they spend anything (for the Cause) small or great-nor cut across a valley, but the deed is inscribed to their credit: that Allah may pay back their deed with the best (possible reward).

When people talk about feeling inspired by the Palestinians' unwavering faith, it’s because Muslims who read the Qur'an know the expectations and rewards of those who cling to Allah's rope.

This is what Allah says about being afraid to strive and clinging to the earth:

38. O you who believe! What (excuse) have you that when it is said to you: Go forth in Allah's way, you should incline heavily to earth; are you contented with this world's life instead of the hereafter? But the provision of this world's life compared with the hereafter is but little. (Surah 9 Repentance).

It’s understandable that we feel fear of losing our livelihood when openly forbidding the evil of the brutal American and Israeli regime, but remember Allah says this in surah 3:

175. It is only the Evil One that suggests to you the fear of his friends: do not be afraid of them but fear Me if you have faith.

I think we should stop arguing with zionists and anyone who supports them and their crimes and abominations. They boldly lie to us and to their own people to achieve their goals.

So going back and forth with them will drive you crazy because it’s a form of manipulation and word games, rather than truth and logic.

We should instead use our words and efforts to strengthen each other.

3) Strengthen each other

In several surahs throughout the Holy Qur'an Allah tells us to strengthen the Believers:

3:200. O you who believe! Be patient and excel in patience and remain steadfast, strengthen each other, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, that you may be successful.

4:84. Then fight in God’s cause , you are held responsible only for yourself and arouse the believers. It may be that God will restrain the fury of the unbelievers: for God is the strongest in might and in punishment.

85. Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner in it: and whoever recommends and helps an evil cause shares in its burden: and God has power over all things.

8:45. O you who believe! When you meet a force, be firm, and call Allah in remembrance much (and often); that you may succeed:

46. And obey Allah and His Messenger; and fall into no disputes, lest you lose heart and your power depart; and be patient and persevering: for Allah is with those who patiently persevere:
